Forest Stewardship
At Coastal Lumber Company, we care about the environment and do our part to assure that it stays healthy and productive, not only because
it’s in our own best interest but because it’s the right thing to do.
As part of our commitment to forest stewardship, we have a staff of professional foresters who manage all of our forestry operations. Our foresters offer private
landowners a full range of forest-management services to achieve the landowners’ goals, whether they want to provide wildlife habitat, enhance recreational
opportunities, produce income or enjoy their property’s aesthetic beauty.
For landowners who want to harvest timber, our foresters oversee all aspects of the harvest to assure that it is done in compliance with local, state and federal
regulations and according to Best Management Practices. One way we do that is by requiring loggers who work with us to complete the professional logger education
program offered in their state. These educational programs include instruction on environmental regulations, proper construction of logging roads and stream
crossings, and proper harvesting techniques to minimize soil disturbance and protect water quality. When a timber harvest is completed, our foresters
continue to work with the landowner to develop and implement a plan for forest regeneration to assure that future generations enjoy the same benefits of the
forest we have today.
Coastal Lumber Company foresters also are involved in a variety of environmental education efforts to help teach others about the
natural world. Among the programs our company supports are Project Learning Tree, an international environmental education program; forestry and
environmental camps for middle school children; and forestry tours for teachers. Our foresters also visit local classrooms to talk about the environment and lead
school groups on a nature trail near one of our facilities.
At Coastal Lumber Company, we realize our future depends on the future of the forest.
We are committed to responsible forest management because it’s the right thing to do.
