Let’s see, I am looking for a
job where as long as I talk a good line, I can ‘succeed’ without any
accountability. That
line would make a great purpose statement for a resume, wouldn’t it?
Doubtful, but it is election time and I become
very susceptible to the above style of cynicism.
Who doesn’t, when politics seems to have become more about
job preservation than constituent representation?
It is frustrating to see how much time politicians,
especially national politicians, spend stumping versus governing.
It is kind of like getting paid to sell lumber but spending
50% of your time playing internet poker.
Nothing against internet poker, I like it too, but probably
not the ideal activity Monday through Friday from 7 o’clock to 5.
I think maybe politicians have come to realize
that they really cannot do anything other than speak well so they
gravitate to their strength.
I cannot imagine any of us feel that a miraculous economic
swing will occur from tomorrow’s election, however, fundamental
modifications start with incremental changes.
I happen to believe we have to remove the perception of
entitlement from elected positions, in order to make governing a
priority over winning elections.
If politicians won’t recognize and impose term limits we as
an electorate can, but we too have to be disciplined to enforce it.
To accomplish this or anything politically we must first and
foremost participate. So
whatever your persuasion and opinion, VOTE.
Be informed, make up your own mind, and VOTE.
